Skip a trip to the police station and file reports for lost property, graffiti and vandalism online.
The Santa Monica Police Department on Monday announced the launch of a new web page, santamonicapd.org/crimereport, that accepts certain types of reports.
File a report online if:
- The suspect was not seen or cannot be described;
- There is no physical evidence for the police to examine or collect, such as fingerprints or DNA;
- The incident occurred or the property was lost within Santa Monica city limits.
Once a report is submitted, a number will be assigned and the case forwarded to the department. If the police need more information, a community service officer will contact the filer, according to the announcement.
If the report is accepted, and if the filer provides his e-mail address, an official copy of the final report will be e-mailed for free within about three business days. Otherwise, click here for information on how to obtain a copy of the report.
Filing a crime report over the phone is still an option by calling (310) 458-8495. For more information on how to file a report, click here.
