Federal prosecutors officially dismissed their case Monday against 62-year-old RonHirsch, after the bombing suspect died Aug. 24 from ischemic heart disease at the Federal Medical Center in Butner, N.C.
Hirsch, a homeless man, was indicted May 3, 2011 on charges stemming from an explosion the month prior outside the Chabad House Lubavitch of Santa Monica. The explosion launched a steel pipe into the side of the Hebrew school before it landed on the roof of a nearby home. No one was injured.
Prior to his death, Hirsch’s trial had been regularly postponed while he underwent forced medical treatment in an effort to determine him fit to stand trial.
