Santa Monica Fire Injures 5, One Seriously

Three police officers and an 89-year-old man are among the injured.

Three police officers and two civilians, including an 89-year-old man, were injured today in a fire that broke out in a mixed-use building in Santa Monica, according to a broadcast report.

The fire was reported around 3:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Montana Avenue near 10th Street, said the Santa Monica police watch commander.

The three officers suffered smoke inhalation. "They were checked out and they are OK," the watch commander said.

The condition of the injured man was not immediately available.

A second civilian was also expected to be OK, according to CBS2, which reported that the building where the fire broke out was a commercial- residential mixed-use structure.
