Santa Monica Holding Prescription Drug Take-Back Event

Santa Monica Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration will collect expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

The Santa Monica Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will hold a prescription drug take-back event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Anyone can dispose of expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs by taking them to the Public Safety Facility (front curb) at 333 Olympic Drive. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

According to the SMPD, the take-back program is offered "to prevent pill abuse and theft." Saturday's event will be the seventh one held in Santa Monica in the past three years.

In April, Americans turned in 371 tons of prescription drugs at more than 5,800 sites operated by the DEA and thousands of state and local law enforcement partners.
