Santa Monica Pier Carjacking Suspect Nabbed 10 Days Later in Montebello

Hector Marquez stole the car from two suspects at gunpoint. He was arrested almost two weeks later and charged with carjacking and grand theft auto.

On Aug. 26 at approximately 9:30 p.m. Santa Monica Police officers responded to the parking lot located in the 1100 block of Pacific Coast Hwy on the report of a carjacking that had just occurred.

Upon arrival, officers were contacted by two victims who stated that they were walking to their vehicle after visiting the pier and were approached by two suspects.  One of them displayed a handgun and asked for their money.

 The suspects took the victim’s cell phone and keys to his vehicle. The suspects then fled in the victim's vehicle southbound on Pacific Coast Highway.  A report was taken.

On Sept. 5 at approximately 6:30 a.m. officers responded to Montebello PD and met with officers who had recovered the victim's stolen vehicle in the 100 block of 3rd St. (Montebello).  After a short foot pursuit, the driver was taken into custody.  The suspect was transported back to Santa Monica and booked for carjacking and grand theft auto. Bail was set at $100,000.
