Police today asked for the public's help in locating a hit-and-run driver who struck and critically injured a 17-year-old girl as she jogged on a Santa Monica street.

The collision happened around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 2300 block of San Vicente Boulevard, said Santa Monica police Sgt. Jay Moroso.

The Santa Monica teen was running east on San Vicente, near the curb, when she was hit by an eastbound vehicle described as a dark gray 2010 to 2012 Toyota Corolla, Sgt. Jay Moroso said.

The girl, whose name was withheld, was hospitalized in critical condition.

"The vehicle is believed to have noticeable collision damage to the front end,'' Moroso said.

Anyone with information about the crash was urged to contact Santa Monica police Investigator Jason Olson at (310) 458-8954.

We don't have all the dots to connect yet. Postponement of judgments suggested. Details, details. What happened in this hit-and-run case apparently remains a mystery at this time.

I am surprised there isn't more situations like this. I see so many runners on ear pieces, bicyclists on ear pieces, walkers on cell phones, at night walking or running on the sidewalks, along side parked cars on the streets, not wearing any protective clothing so the driving public can see them or lights front and back of those bikes...Use your head when you go out for the evening, protect yourself from the driving public, they are just as distracted as you.

Yes, of course I blame the victim. No one goes running in a street at 11:00 p.m. She alone is responsible for her injuries. We are responsible for our own safety and survival, i.e., financially, physically and spiritually.

11 at night, running in the street, a dark unlit street?...foolish, but still sad...
