Teenage Shooting Victim Will Recover

Details of the investigation into the shooting of a 16-year-old Santa Monica High School student one week ago remain scarce.

The 16-year-old Santa Monica High School student , will recover, authorities said.

The minor might already have been home Tuesday after undergoing surgery immediately after the incident Dec. 6 in front of 521 Pacific Street, Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis said.

The police department, however, is releasing few details about its investigation, only to say that the young victim spoke with detectives last week.

"The investigation continues, detectives are moving forward," Lewis said. The victim "is going to recover. As far the case goes, there's nothing new I can report to the public."

The incident occurred one week ago at about 3:30 p.m. Police believe two Hispanic males, described only as in their 20s, got out of a dark-colored Kia Sorento-type sport utility vehicle with a bicycle or ski rack and a bumper sticker, shot the victim several times in the chest and then fled.

Lewis did say that the teenager was not near his home at the time of the shooting.
