Smash-and-Grab Robberies Suspect Arrested

The suspect is wanted in connection to a string of break-ins on Montana Avenue

A suspect wanted in string of mash-and-grab robberies on Montana Avenue since Nov. 6 has been taken in custody, authorities say.

Santa Monica Police in conjunction with the Secret Service arrested Ronald Perkins, 55, Thursday morning near Dodger Stadium, Sgt. Jay Moroso said.

The string of robberies started on Nov. 6 at Number One Beauty, 1426 Montana Ave. Since then six more smash-and-grab break-ins occurred on Montana Avenue, the latest happened Monday at Classy Chic, 1624 Montana Ave.

Police believe the man in custody is connected to at least one of the crimes. The investigation is ongoing, Moroso said.

"Detectives are not ruling out the possibility of others involved and will continue with their investigative efforts in this matter," he said.

In addition to the incidents on Montana Avenue, there were three other smash-and-grabs in the city in the past week, according to police.

Residents are advised to notify police immediately if they noticed something suspicious at (310) 458-8491.
