Police Interview Driver Involved in Fatal Car Crash

No arrests have been made regarding the incident, which occurred Saturday and claimed the life of a 23-year-old Santa Monica resident.

Police have interviewed at least one person regarding Saturday's , an officer with the told Santa Monica Patch early Sunday. The officer also said no arrests have been made and that traffic investigators are still conducting their preliminary investigation.

City News Service reports that the registered owner of the second car involved in the crash was located by police on Sunday morning. Police have reportedly obtained a statement from the person, though it has not been released to the public.

It is not yet clear if the owner of the car was the same person who allegedly fled the scene of the crash, which claimed the life of 23-year-old Santa Monica resident Anupam Sanyal.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Wilshire Blvd. and 20th St. Sanyal's vehicle collided with a palm tree after striking the other car.

Police found the other car abandoned farther away from the scene of the crash. The driver of the vehicle allegedly fled following the incident, according to CNS. The car was reportedly impounded.

Potential charges against the driver of the car would be decided by prosecutors, who will handle the case after traffic detectives finish investigating the incident.

Police are asking the public for information regarding the incident, as the investigation is still ongoing. The SMPD is asking those who have information to contact Det.
