Suicide Suspected in Fatal Fall at Sheraton Delfina

The man was pronounced dead early Monday morning. Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy.

Suicide is suspected in the death of a man who fell from a balcony at the , police said.

He was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m. Monday by firefighters who found his body on the sidewalk of Pico Boulevard, below the room where he was staying, according to Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis.

The man's identity is being withheld until his family is notified. The official cause of death will be confirmed after an autopsy is completed.

Lewis said the man fell from "pretty high up," about eight stories.

The nine-story Sheraton Delfina Santa Monica is at 530 Pico Blvd., between Fifth and Sixth streets.
