Suspected Burglar Takes A Nap in Car While On The Job

Nelson Rosas Lozano was found inside someone else's car with the vehicle owner's GPS unit on his lap.

On Jan. 15 at approximately 2:15 a.m. officers responded to the 1900 block of 18th St. regarding a vehicle burglary in progress. 

The witness told police that he watched as the suspect was walking down the street, pulling car door handles. He eventually tried one and entered a car. The police arrived to find someone sitting inside of the passenger seat of the vehicle in question, asleep. 

The person had a gray GPS unit in his lap. Officers woke up the occupant and had him step out of the car for questioning.  When they asked him if he owned the car, the occupant remained silent.

The officers found the owner of the vehicle who told him that he did not give anyone permission to be in his car, including the person they had stopped. He also identified the GPS unit as belonging to his vehicle. The owner identified items strewn on the ground outside of his car as being left in his center console when he left the car. 

Suspect: Nelson Rosas Lozano, M/H, 6/30/69, 44, of Santa Monica. Bail: $20,000
