Two Arrested Over Torture Incident

The victim allegedly received multiple contusions and cuts, and lost at least 60 pounds, while being held at a residence in Santa Monica.

Two individuals have been arrested in connection with an incident that allegedly involved torture and assault with a deadly weapon. The victim, who say is a 26-year-old man with diminished mental capacity, was allegedly held against his will at a residence near 3000 Santa Monica Blvd.

Francisco Gerardo Rodriquez, 25, was arrested for torture, mayhem, abuse of a dependent adult and assault with a deadly weapon. Maria Leyva Jasmilet, 26, was arrested for abuse of a dependent adult.

Rodriquez and Jasmilet's two children, who are 5 and 7, are with the Department of Children and Family Services. The children were put into protective custody upon the arrest of their parents.

The SMPD was alerted to the incident early Wednesday afternoon, when an officer learned that the victim had been dropped off at a hospital in Culver City on Sunday.

The victim was treated at the hospital for injuries he allegedly received from a severe assault that occurred at the residence near 3000 Santa Monica Blvd. According to the SMPD, the victim told police that he had been held against his will at the residence.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was moved to another local hospital, where he received advanced medical care stemming from his injuries. Physicians told police that the man had lost 60 to 80 pounds, had received multiple new tattoos and had contusions and cuts all over his body, according to the SMPD.

The arrests were made after the police obtained a search warrant for the residence.
