Two Pedestrians Injured In Car Accident

The accident occurred in a Santa Monica parking garage.

A 67-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were critically injured Friday when they were struck by a car and pinned against an elevator and adjacent wall inside a parking garage in Santa Monica.

The crash happened around 12:40 p.m. in Parking Structure 7 at 1502 Fourth St., said Santa Monica police Lt. Richard Lewis.

A woman drove into the garage from Broadway and her car slightly overshot the ticket dispenser, Lewis said.

As she reached back for the ticket her foot came off the car's brake. When she attempted to step on the brake again, she accidentally put her foot on the accelerator, he said.

The car slammed into the victims, who were waiting outside an elevator along with some family members, Lewis said.
