2 Seriously Injured in Santa Monica Parking Garage Accident

A motorist struck a man and a woman in a parking structure in Santa Monica Friday, seriously injuring both of them.

The crash was reported at 12:40 p.m. Friday in Structure No. 7 near the entrance of Third Street and Broadway Avenue, according to Santa Monica Police Lt. Richard Lewis.

Investigators believe the woman driving the car got the gas pedal and brake mixed up, accelerating the vehicle toward the elevators.

The man and the woman were waiting by the elevator and were struck. Both suffered critical injuries to the lower extremities. One of the two was pinned to the wall and also suffered a head injury, according to police.

Both are in critical condition and are in surgery at a nearby trauma center, Lewis said.

The driver, whose name was not immediately released, was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs and is cooperating with investigators, according to Lewis.
