Woman Charged with Possession of Narcotics

Santa Monica Police officers discovered a knife and cocaine in Jannette Chaidez's car after she was pulled over for a missing license plate.

On Aug. 30 at approximately 11:15 p.m. officers were driving north in the 2000 block of Cloverfield Blvd. when they observed a vehicle missing a license plate driving southbound.

The officer initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle in the 2300 block of Kansas Ave. During the officer's investigation, it was determined the driver was driving on a suspended driver's license. The officer obtained consent to search the vehicle and found a knife and cocaine in the car.

A preliminary test in the field indicated the substance was positive for cocaine. The driver and her passenger denied the cocaine belonged to them. The driver also had in her possession $377 in small denominations. The driver was booked in Santa Monica Jail.
