Woman Pleads No Contest in Crash That Killed Former Rugby Star
She faces four years in prison for vehicular manslaughter in the death of the Australian tourist killed while crossing a Santa Monica street
A Westchester woman pleaded no contest Thursday to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated for the death of an former Australian rugby star, who was killed in a crash while on vacation with his family in Santa Monica.
Cara Maree Cameron, 28, is facing up to four years behind bars when she returns to the Airport Branch Courthouse for sentencing on Jan. 17, according to Deputy District Attorney Kevin Liu.
She is also expected to be ordered to pay $100,000 in restitution to Gary Mara's family.

Mara, 50, was in a crosswalk with his wife and 8-year-old daughter against a red "Don't Walk" signal when he was struck Aug. 21, 2012, on Colorado Avenue by Cameron's eastbound vehicle.
