4th and Arizona Mixed-Use Development on Tuesday’s City Council Agenda

Staff will recommend that the City enter into an exclusive agreement to develop the massive property with Metropolitan Pacific Capital, Clarett West, and DLJ West Capital.

Back in July, the City of Santa Monica officially hired architect Rem Koolhaas  and his firm OMA to design a major mixed-use development site on City property at 4th and Arizona.

The proposed Plaza at Santa Monica will incorporate a civic plaza, cultural venue, retail, residences, offices and a boutique hotel with 225 rooms in the heart of downtown.

The 148 foot tall, 400,000 square foot project will also have an outdoor centerpiece that can be used for public performances and even a winter ice-skating rink, as well as expanded sidewalks, the inclusion of bike lanes and additional public parking.

At Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, staff will recommend that the council authorize the City Manager to move forward with an exclusive negotiating agreement with the development team led by Metropolitan Pacific Capital, Clarett West, and DLJ West Capital, to develop the property and to also incorporate affordable housing into the proposed development.

If the project is approved, construction is slated to begin some time in 2014.
