Bloom Joins Call For Fracking Regulations

Several legislators are urging for federal investigations and regulations of hydraulic fracturing.

State Assemblyman Richard Bloom, D-Santa Monica, has joined other legislators in calling for federal investigations and new regulations for oil companies fracking off the California coast.

Short for hydraulic fracturing, the practice can pose health hazards with the release of toxic chemicals, groundwater contamination and potential seismic activity, according to CleanTechnica.com.

A letter drafted by Assemblyman Das Williams, D-Santa Barbara, was signed by Democratic State Sens. Fran Pavley, Noreen Evans and Hannah-Beth Jackson. Democratic Assembly members Mark Stone, Scotts Valley, Marc Levine, San Rafael, Adrin Nazarian, Sherman Oaks, and Bob Wieckowski, Fremont, also signed the letter, which was sent to the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Interior.
