City Council to Approve Green Bike Lane Project

The project would add three additional miles of green bike lanes in the city.

The Santa Monica City Council has a full agenda for its meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

On the agenda for the Council is the half-million dollar green bike lane project on Main Street and Broadway. If approved, the project will add three additional miles of green bike lanes in the city. According to staff report, the project “would improve visibility and comfort for bicyclists.” The price tag for the project is $532,852 with Rialto-based Chrisp Company as the contractor.

The City Council will also formally adopt an ordinance approving two six-story mid-priced hotels on Colorado Avenue and Fifth Street. The Council unanimously approved the project at the Nov. 12 meeting after the developers settled on a labor agreement with worker’s union. This is the second reading and adoption of the ordinance.

Also on the agenda is an ordinance allowing the city to publish a list of the biggest tax delinquencies, those with unpaid taxes of $5,000 or more.  The ordinance will also allow the city’s finance director to wave or reduce penalties or interests on delinquent taxes, according to staff report.

“This process would provide the Finance Director with limited authority to waive uncollectable debts and would be consistent with the Finance Department’s responsibilities to maintain the City’s financial records and prepare its financial reports,” the report said.
