CityTV Wins Emmys, Sets New Shows

Santa Monica's city-operated TV station wins its 11th Los Angeles Area Emmy Award.

Once again,  needs to expand its trophy shelf: For the 11th time, Santa Monica's city-operated TV station has won a Los Angeles Area Emmy Award.

CityTV came out on top in the Public Service Announcement category, thanks to its Toy Loan Program PSA. The LA County Channel helped produce the PSA, which is part of the Women in Film Public Service Announcement Production Program.

“CityTV is delighted to have its 11th Emmy win and its first win for the Women in Film PSA Production Program,” CityTV Station Manager Robin Gee said in a statement. “The programs provide nonprofits with powerful PSAs to help raise public awareness of their cause, and it also aspiring women directors, producers and writers the opportunity to expand their skill set while giving back to the community.”

The Toy Loan Program PSA, which was produced by Emily Butali, Robin Gee and Al Johnson, can be seen on CityTV.org.

In other CityTV news, the station just announced new programming for the fall. Forte Channel 99, its life-long learning channel, will feature five shows about art history, jazz, marine life and sustainable gardening.

Shows include Jazz in the Modern Era, Gardens of California, Natural Disasters, Introduction to Public Relations and Introduction to Marine Life. They will begin airing between Sept. 6 and Sept. 13.

Through Forte Channel 99, Santa Monica residents can earn college credits while watching and participating in the programs. Viewers can interact with faculty and guests by calling in during the broadcast and/or sending text messages.

Forte Channel 99 will feature nearly 10 hours of programming each week. The channel is a collaboration with DHTV, the broadcast and video streaming service of California State University, Dominguez Hills.
