Fewer Santa Monica Voters Turned Out for Obama This Year
Voter turnout Tuesday in Santa Monica was 56 percent. It was 87 percent in the last presidential election in 2008.
More than half of Santa Monica's registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday's election, but the number fell far short of the city's 2008 turnout.
Of 60,909 eligible voters, 56 percent hit the polls, voting overwhelmingly to reelect president Barack Obama, according to reports filed on the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder/County Clerk's website. Though there were nearly 2,000 more registered voters Tuesday compared to four years ago, the turnout wasn't as impressive. In 2008 it was 87 percent.
And, in 2008, Santa Monica residents cast 39,870 votes for Obama, compared to 25,635 this year.
