Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin posted the following response to Sunday's fatal plane crash at Santa Monica Airport on his Facebook page and twitter account.
Bonin's District 11 includes Pacific Palisades, Venice and Mar Vista, which is adjacent to Santa Monica Airport and where the councilmember lives.
"Last night's crash was just 150 feet from nearby homes. Just 150 feet. There have been more than 80 crashes related to this airport since 1982. Meanwhile, nearby residents are suffering from harmful jet fuel emissions. It is time to shut this airport down."
Bonin’s comments were retweeted by State Senator Ted Lieu who just two weeks ago held a public hearing to highlight the pollution risks inherent in lead in aviation gas.
