Ocean Park Post Office to Reopen Wednesday

After checking for possible asbestos contamination, the facility has been given a clean bill of health.

In checking for possible asbestos contamination, the Ocean Park post office has been give the all-clear and will reopen Wednesday, the U.S. Postal Service announced today.

“A testing contractor tested both the air and surfaces for asbestos and none was found. The facility has been deemed safe for our employees and customers,” said Richard Maher, USPS spokesman.

Last week, the postal service shut down the small facility, which houses retail and Post Office Box operations only, after ceiling tiles possibly containing asbestos were damaged during a water leak on the floor above.

“The bathroom floor and ceiling tile replacement is the landlord’s responsibility and we are working with the landlord to ensure code compliance,” Maher said.

Services were interrupted at the station at 2720 Neilson Way in Santa Monica, he added, “out of an abundance of caution” for employees and customers.
