What's Your Take on Proposed New Tax?

An emergency parcel tax is being considered amid the ongoing school-budget crisis.

On Tuesday, the School Board discussed the possibility of an emergency parcel tax in light of ongoing budget issues. The proposal is not to be confused with the following last year's passage of Proposition Y.

The board has already approved the formation of a citizens committee to evaluate the possible parcel tax. Board members have stressed the importance of community involvement in the process.

In the coming weeks, the committee will poll members of the community about their opinions on the proposal. If the committee recommends a parcel tax be added to the November ballot, the provision would need the board’s approval by Aug. 10.
