Santa Monica Airport Director Bob Trimborn Retiring

Bob Trimborn is retiring after 17 years at the helm of Santa Monica Airport.

Bob Trimborn is retiring as director of the Santa Monica Airport.

"I've been running airports for over 30 years it's just my time," Trimborn told Patch. "I decided it was time to retire."

Trimborn said he did his best to strike the balance between aviation and non-aviation issues.

"I'm really proud about certain things I was able to accomplish that I will always be able to look back on with a little bit of pride," Trimborn said.

He said he does not have any immediate plans.

"Right now this door is going to close," Trimborn said. "Whatever opportunities afford themselves, I'll be open to those."

Trimborn's last day is July 1. He became Santa Monica's airport director in 1996.

In May, the Santa Monica City Council approved an increase in landing fees at the Santa Monica Airport. The fees will more than double from $2.07 to $5.48 per 1,000 pounds of aircraft by Aug. 1.
