Santa Monica Seeks Ideas for Safe Walking

The city of Santa Monica is inviting residents and visitors to share their ideas for making walking safe.

The virtual online town hall features questions and the city is handing out prizes to participants.

This week’s featured question is: “What ideas do you have for programs or events to ensure that older adults, young people, and others who cannot or choose not to drive can enjoy walking as a safe and viable form of transportation?”

Last week’s Featured Question of the Week raffle winner was Jeremy Sommer, who won a $5 gift card by answering the question: “If there were one symbol that represented walking in Santa Monica, what would it look like, and what would you name it?” Jeremy’s idea was for a gender neutral cartoon of a cheerful pedestrian.

The website features several topics related to walking in Santa Monica, from where people like to walk and where safety improvements are needed, to how they plan to get to future Expo stations.

Community members can share their ideas, upload photos, add comments, and support ideas from other residents. Input received will be used to shape Santa Monica’s Pedestrian Action Plan.
