Slab Repairs Prompt Overnight Closure of Northbound 405 Freeway

The freeway will close at about midnight and is expected to reopen by 5 a.m., according to Metro.

The northbound San Diego (405) Freeway will be closed between Santa Monica and Wilshire boulevards for five hours overnight Thursday to prepare for upcoming work on the Santa Monica Boulevard bridge.

The freeway will close at about midnight and is expected to reopen by 5 a.m., according to Metro, which is overseeing the 405 Freeway construction in the Sepulveda Pass.

Motorists will be directed off the freeway at Santa Monica Boulevard, then north on Sepulveda Boulevard and back onto the freeway at Wilshire, according to Metro. Traffic control officers are expected to be on hand.

The northbound freeway will be closed again from 11 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday at Santa Monica Boulevard so crews can repair the "approach slab'' at the connection between the freeway and the bridge. During that closure, northbound traffic will be detoured off the freeway and immediately back on again at Santa Monica Boulevard.

The closure will be repeated May 17 and May 18.
