Torie Osborn Picks Up Eco-Endorsements

Assembly candidate has picked up three new endorsements, all of them from environmental leaders, the Assembly candidate's camp announced Tuesday morning.

The liberal activist now has in her corner Paula Daniels, former president of Santa Monica-based ; Joel Reynolds of the Natural Resources Defense Council, which has an office in Santa Monica; and President of the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters Jonathan Parfrey.

Osborn is running for , which will include Santa Monica.

“I deeply appreciate the support of these environmental leaders, and I look forward to working with them to find ways to rebuild California,” she said in a statement.

“Torie Osborn has a track record of actually accomplishing meaningful public policy changes that affect real people. She’s done it as a civic leader, working outside of government, and she’s done it while working in government,” Parfrey said, in a statement, regarding the first-time candidate.

“I know that she will ... continue to carry the torch that her predecessors, Assemblywoman Julie Brownley, State Senator Fran Pavley, and former State Senator Sheila Kuehl, have carried on progressive environmental legislation,” Daniels said in a statement.

Osborn has also from Kuehl (who was the 41st District representative from 1994 to 2000); Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; Congresswoman Karen Bass; ; ; the California Nurses Association; and Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti. She raised $215,000 in the first half of 2011, bringing her total fundraising to $294,400.

Osborn's primary opponent appears to be , D-Marina del Rey, who is planning to relocate to the 50th District. Butler's include the ; Assembly Speaker John Pérez, California Democratic Party Vice Chair Alex Rooker; Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca; the Legislative LGBT Caucus; and the Legislative Women’s Caucus.

Assemblywoman Julia Brownley, who is leaving the 41st Assembly District due to term limits, and Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel have endorsed both Butler and Osborn.

Also running in the race is , who has earned endorsements from Beverly Hills Mayor Barry Brucker, Malibu Mayor John Sibert and former L.A. County Supervisor Ed Edelman.

The top two vote-getters from the 50th Assembly District primary contest, regardless of party affiliation, will face off in the November general election.
