The eastbound Wilshire Boulevard onramp to the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway is closed for the next 90 days; the final extended ramp closure required for the reconstruction of the interchange.

According to Metro, which is overseeing the 405 Freeway construction project through the Sepulveda Pass, the existing ramp will be demolished and replaced with one that will have three times more capacity. The new ramp will be 3,129 feet long, compared to the existing 824-foot ramp in hopes of reducing a backlog that traditionally develops at the interchange.

The onramp closed at 10 p.m. Thursday night, according to Dave Sotero of Metro.

Motorists were advised to plan ahead and seek out alternate routes, including the northbound onramp at Santa Monica Boulevard. That ramp has been recently widened to handle additional capacity.
