New Expo Line Coming to Town

Santa Monica residents are very excited about the new project to build a metro line that runs from Downtown Los Angeles to Downtown Santa Monica.

Just think, no more waiting in gridlock on the 10 freeway when traveling to from East to West. The project is supposed to be finish by 2016, and it will alleviate the growing traffic problem that has come with the popularity of the city and its new projects, such as Tongva Park.

Old attractions like the Promenade and the Santa Monica Pier are always very popular places to visit in Los Angeles no matter what time of the year. Plus, with all the businesses starting on Ocean Avenue and Main Street, people seem to come in droves. That means more traffic.

The light rail Expo line will be able to transport people from Downtown Los Angeles to the intersection of Colorado and 4th, Downtown Santa Monica, in less than 50 minutes. This will help with the heavy traffic on the 10, which is the only major highway that feeds into Santa Monica.

What will it consist of?

The Expo line will consist of three stations. The first stop, coming from Downtown LA, will be at 26th Street. The second station will be at Bergamot and 17th Street, near Santa Monica College. The last stop will be at 4th Street and Colorado, right in the middle of downtown Santa Monica.

The Expo line will also have bike path that will run alongside. This will open up lanes for cyclists that have a rough time riding in the traffic congested Santa Monica.

The track for the Expo line will only run for three miles, down the center of Colorado Boulevard.  The project can be seen being built on Venice Blvd, which is where the Expo currently ends at Culver City.

The Significance

The Expo to Santa Monica is a significant long-term public investment for the city of Los Angeles. It will provide regional mobility and sustainability. It will provide Santa Monica residents easier access to the city of Los Angeles without the hassle of putting up with the notoriously bad LA traffic.
