Artist Sona Mirzaei, To Be Featured in Santa Monica Art Studios Holiday Show, Dec 7th!

Contemporary artist Sona Mirzaei is set to exhibit her paintings at the Santa Monica Art Studios’ holiday event on Saturday December 7th from 6-9 pm. She is looking forward to the event. It’s been a busy year for her as she recently participated in the first U.S. debut exhibition of the Elephant Parade. Unlike any of the other artists, Sona had the chance to design two elephants, one on her own as well as one with actor Daniel Benzali.

“The Elephant Parade was a rare and unique opportunity to do another public art project but in the US which gives so much credibility to an artist because people in my home state get to experience my work outside and see how much public art makes communities and public spaces more appealing and fun to be in and the range of my work,” says Sona. “I had a great time meeting all the artists, some from California, so it was great to share our endeavors, talents, dreams and accomplishments for an amazing cause.” Although it was the first time in the U.S., this is the third time the artist has been featured in this international event. “The resorts were a wonderful host for the amazing designed elephants that grace their public lobby spaces but also all over the City of Dana Point,” She continues. “The California coastline as a backdrop against the elephant sculptures was a magnificent sight. Seeing an Uncle Sam elephant by sea is pretty fun visually. Also my elephant being on display at the Downtown LA Live Nokia Center was an awesome experience for an LA artist to exhibit my work there as well as an honor. Overall it was great way to introduce what is happening to Asian elephants to Americans and hopefully we can do more to combat this horrific cause.”

Like most artists, Sona works when she is moved, when asked if she prefers to paint more when she is happy or sad, she replies “My emotions guides some of my work and inspiration from daily activities that can lead to painting at any given time of the day, but also projects that have deadlines and not so spontaneous have equal passion like any other occupation when you do what you love. The Mayor of Toronto has his crack and I have my art, almost equivalent in my world, as she laughs. I can wake up in the middle of night to start painting and naturally wake up in the morning naturally to do it as well due to natural lighting that so many powerful elements. I am linked to the sun and it is so powerful to work-in that it immediately demands for you to get your brushes out and get to work. It is wonderful how much nature plays an important role in artists’ lives. I used to be such a nighttime painter and now I paint during the day mostly. The evolvement of artists working habits can be mind-boggling and inspiration is always flowing like champagne just need to cork it when its happening! Usually I give myself a schedule to work with according to projects that I am working on and the time needed to complete them, in-between I am excessively creative on with all sorts of mediums and try to have some fun too. There is so much inspiration everywhere all we need to do is open our eyes, spirit and mind to experience it.”
