Blog: Residents Call for Dismissal of Consultant

Over 600 Santa Monica Residents Have Signed an Open Letter to the City Council Demanding that Transportation Consultant Jeffrey Tumlin be Dismissed.

Over 600 Santa Monica Residents Have Signed an Open Letter to the City Council Demanding that Transportation Consultant Jeffrey Tumlin be Dismissed.

Neighborhood groups citywide along with SMCLC initiated an Open Letter calling for Mr. Tumlin's dismissal. The Open Letter with over 600 names was sent to the Council today. A copy of the letter is attached.

Diana Gordon, Co-Chair, SMCLC says:  "Mr. Tumlin has lost the trust of residents. He has shown his contempt for Santa Monicans and now has been called out by over 600 residents who are asking City Hall to dismiss him. He and his firm have been paid over $1.6 million by the City for their consulting services."

"Santa Monicans deserve a transportation consultant who is community friendly, who has not already made up his mind that huge, new developments are good, who understands the history of Santa Monica's growing traffic and parking problems and doesn't pretend that a tsunami of millions of square feet of new projects proposed citywide won't exacerbate those problems."

"Making matters worse, Mr. Tumlin's transportation proposals favor developers. He is proposing ideas that will only benefit developers, such as
drastically reducing the amount of parking in new projects while supporting more and greater density development.  The fact that his proposals would make developersmore money (by allowing them to build less parking) and residents more miserable, tells us that he is out of touch with Santa Monica," adds Gordon.
