Bullying to Be Discussed at Town Hall

The meeting will take place Friday night at the Boys & Girls Club.

With the school year now in full swing, the topic of bullying is once again a concern for many parents. One in four children in this country is bullied each month, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

In Santa Monica, bullying—including how it is often exacerbated by social media—will be discussed at length at a town hall meeting to be held Friday night at the .

"Putting a Stop to Bullying & Cyber Bullying" will feature a panel of five young people, ages 12 to 16, who have been bullied, bullied someone else and/or started an anti-bullying campaign.

The meeting is one of 75 events comprising Social Media Week (Monday through Friday), a global effort to foster conversations about topics popular in social media.

At the meeting, which is open to the public, members of the panel will answer questions from the audience and also questions submitted via Twitter.

The event will also feature a live performance by 16-year-old country-music singer Kylie Morgan, who is one of the panel members and the national spokesperson for anti-bullying at Pacer.org, a bullying-prevention nonprofit.

Video interviews done by youth-centric social media company KooDooZ will be shown as well, and that organization's founder, Lee Fox, will moderate the meeting in Santa Monica. Online, questions will be moderated by the Boys & Girls club.

A stream of the town hall will be broadcast live online at LiveStream.com, and questions sent via Twitter will be addressed while the meeting takes place.
