Funeral to Be Held Wednesday for Matthew Mezza

Families of Santa Monica High School students helped with a memorial reception Tuesday night.

(Updated on Jan. 19 at 7:30 a.m.): Families of Santa Monica High School students helped with a memorial reception for Matthew Mezza on Tuesday night. Fifty cases of water, soda and juice were to the family of the student. An individual affiliated with the school said the family is grateful for and has been touched by the amount of support it has received since the tragedy occurred.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday for Matthew Mezza, the freshman who died late last week.

The services will take place at 3 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, which is located at 6001 W. Centinela Ave. in Los Angeles.

A representative for the funeral home told Santa Monica Patch on Tuesday night that the services will be open to the public.

At around 5 p.m. on Friday, Mezza jump out a window on the eighth floor of the hotel across the street from the Santa Monica High School campus. Prior to the episode, he had been practicing with his baseball team at the school.

Mezza initially survived after the attempt, but later died after being transported to the .

On Tuesday, counselors were at Santa Monica High School to talk with students in need of support.
