Pacifica Christian Spikers Top CIF Rankings

The Seawolves are now #1 in the Southern Section Division 4A poll.

's girls volleyball team has taken the top spot in the Division 4A Top 10 poll in the CIF Southern Section. The team has moved ahead of last week's No. 1 team, Hemet.

The Seawolves (7-3) took third place against larger schools at the Arcadia Tournament and advanced to the semifinals of the Brentwood Tournament last weekend. The reigning Heritage League winners began the week having 40 consecutive league matches.

Alverno moved to third in the rankings, moving ahead of Fairmont Prep, which slipped to fourth. Bell-Jeff is No. 5, Grace Brethren is No. 6, San Jacinto is No. 7, Frazier Mountain is No. 8, Milken Community is No. 9 and Connelly is No. 10.

is still third in the Division 3AA girls volleyball rankings. Chadwick is atop the poll and Pasadena Poly is second. Mayfield is No. 4, Mission Prep is No. 5, Cerritos is No. 6, Ocean View is No. 7, Santa Ynez is No. 8, Western is No. 9 and Quartz Hill is No. 10.

After moving into the Top 10 in Division 3 last week, the Samohi boys water polo team maintains its No. 8 position this week. The Vikings are a spot behind Capistrano Valley and one spot in front of Peninsula. Laguna Beach remains atop the poll, followed by Damien, Aliso Niguel, Palos Verdes, La Canada and Mira Costa.

The Samohi football team has been added to the list of "others under consideration" in the Western Division poll. The Vikings returned to the fringe, just outside the Top 10, after their 42-0 shutout of Anaheim Canyon last Friday at .

rival Culver City maintained its spot at No. 7 in this week's poll after a 40-23 home victory over Redondo Union.

Santa Fe Springs St. Paul moved into the top spot ahead of Mission League rival West Hills Chaminade. St. Paul beat Garfield of the Los Angeles City Section, 31-8, while Chaminade lost to Alemany of the Pac-5 Division, 38-14, last Friday.    

Arroyo Grande held at No. 3, Serra held at No. 4 and St. Francis held at No. 5 after all three won last week. Santa Maria St. Joseph stayed at No. 6, Culver City stayed at No. 7, Dominguez held at No. 8, Atascadero held at No. 9 and Ventura remained 10th after all five schools posted victories.

Valencia which hosts Santa Monica on Friday, dropped from eighth to ninth in the Northern Division football poll despite a 17-0 shutout of Palmdale. Compton Centennial, which hosts the Vikings on Oct. 7, had a bye but moved up two spots to third in the Northwest Division poll.

(2-2) beat Brentwood 34-14 Saturday at SMC but it wasn't enough to earn the Mariners a spot in the Top 10 poll in the Northeast Division.

In girls tennis, Samohi holds at No. 9 in this week's Division 2 poll, behind No. 8 Cypress and ahead of No. 10 Great Oak. San Marino remains the top-ranked team, followed by Newport Harbor, Santa Barbara, Arcadia, Murrieta Valley, El Dorado and Diamond Bar.

moved up one spot from No. 8 to No. 7 in the Division 4 girls tennis poll, behind Bishop Montgomery and ahead of Torrance, Arroyo and Santa Ynez. Buckley is the top-rated team, followed by Cerritos and Viewpoint, which jumped from seventh to third.
