School police warned that the retrieval process will be "complex and lengthy'' and said people will be escorted onto the campus individually to get their belongings. People will be required to "sign out'' their belongings as well, police said.

Purses, computers and books were apparently abandoned in the library and other buildings as the campus was evacuated, in the middle of final exams, Friday.

Students and staff were told they will be updated via email and the campus website when they can return to the school. Questions may be directed to the campus incident call center at (310) 434-3500, which was to remain staffed until 9 p.m. tonight, campus police said.
