Samohi Football Unranked in CIF

The Vikings are not in the top 10 in the Western Division poll.

The CIF Southern Section office has released this week's football rankings, and has dropped off the list of "others under consideration" in the Western Division poll. The drop-off happened despite the Vikings' .

Beverly Hills, which had also been on the "others" list, also dropped out despite its 20-13 victory over San Marcos. Ocean League rival Culver City maintained its spot at No. 7 after its 42-7 rout of Peninula.

West Hills Chaminade of the Mission League stayed atop the poll after its 14-10 victory over Valencia while St. Paul and Arroyo Grande held at No. 2 and No. 3 after each was victorious Friday. Serra moved up one spot from No. 4 to No. 5 after a 33-0 victory over Mira Costa.

St. Francis jumped over Santa Maria St. Joseph into the No. 5 spot after its 35-0 shutout of Crescenta Valley. St. Joseph fell to sixth after losing 14-10 to Palma of the Central Coast Section. Dominguez held at No. 8, Atascadero held at No. 9 and Ventura remained 10th after all three won.

Valencia (0-2), which hosts Santa Monica on Sept. 30, is ranked No. 8 in the Northern Division poll, dropping one spot after its loss to Chaminade. Compton Centennial (2-0), which hosts the Vikings Oct. 7, moved up to spots to No. 5 in the Northwest Division poll after beating Lynwood 14-10.

(1-2) lost 17-3 to Malibu on Saturday. The Mariners are not ranked in the Northeast Division.

The CIF Southern Section football polls are updated weekly throughout the season.

In girls volleyball, santa Monica is ranked third in Division 3AA and is ranked second in Division 4A, moving up two spots from No. 4. Hemet remains the top-ranked team and Fairmont Prep held at No. 3.

In boys water polo, Santa Monica moved into the Top 10 in Division 3. The Vikings are No. 8, one spot behind Capistrano Valley and one spot ahead of Peninsula. Laguna Beach maintained its No. 1 position.

In girls tennis, Santa Monica is ranked ninth in this week's Division 2 poll, behind No. 8 Cypress and ahead of No. 10 Great Oak. San Marino is the top-ranked team, followed by Newport Harbor and Santa Barbara.

is ranked No. 8 in the Division 4 poll, behind Viewpoint and ahead of Torrance and Arroyo. Buckley is the top-rated team, followed by Santa Ynez and Cerritos.
