Santa Monica College Trustee Elected President of State Panel

Santa Monica College trustee Dr. Louise Jaffe was elected president of the California Community College Trustees for 2014-15, it was announced today.

"Dr. Jaffe is a strong leader, an experienced trustee, and an accomplished education researcher," SMC Superintendent/President Chui L. Tang said. "She is what the state needs at this time when we are focusing on student success."

The CCCT is affiliated with the nonprofit Community College League of California, which includes all 72 California community college districts.

The CCCT takes positions on issues placed before the state Board of Governors and the Legislature. Policy direction also is provided concerning statewide educational policy, research initiatives, publications, workshops and conferences.

"With more than 400 trustees across California, it is a huge honor and privilege to be elected CCCT president," Jaffe said. "It is also a huge opportunity, especially now that there is increased state funding available to serve our student. My priority at the state level is the very same as my priority here at the local level: to improve student success for all of our community college students."
