The Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation received a $500,000 cash donation from the Scott Family Charitable Fund this week, the second-largest gift if the foundation's 30-year history. The sizable gift was announced Thursday night at the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board (SMMUSD) of Education meeting by the foundation's Executive Director Linda Greenberg Gross.
SMMUSD recently introduced the “Vision for Student Success,” which aims to ensure educational opportunities for every student in the district.
The funds, which will help the foundation reach its $4 million a year fundraising goal, will be used toward professional development for teachers and instructional aides in classrooms.
The Scott family includes longtime Santa Monica residents who have gone through SMMUSD schools and been active both with PTAs and as teachers’ aides.
“We are anxious to see the annual fundraising goal for the Vision for Student Success reached this year and every year, and we know the first year is the most challenging,” the family said in a statement. “We hope this gift will inspire parents and community members throughout the District to join us in providing enrichment opportunities for every student.”
