SMC's Organic Learning Garden: See Photos

A grand-opening ceremony is held for the garden, which is sprouting beets, bok choy, carrots, fava beans, kale and lettuce.

On Tuesday morning,  held a grand-opening ceremony for its new Organic Learning Garden, located outside the main campus' Art Complex patio.

Among those who attended the ceremony were SMC President Dr. Chui L. Tsang and Santa Monica City Manager Rod Gould. The free event also featured live music, speakers and food.

The garden, which is sprouting beets, bok choy, carrots, fava beans, kale and lettuce, opened in late August.

Roughly a dozen groups of SMC students and employees are taking part in the garden, claiming a plot of their own and planting the vegetables.
