The CIF Southern Section office has released its latest football rankings, and under consideration in this week's Western Division poll. Despite , the Vikings are one of nine teams just outside the Top 10.
Ocean League rival Culver City moved up two places from No. 9 to No. 7 in the rankings while another league foe, Beverly Hills, also remains on the "others" list after losing its opener 27-6 at Santa Barbara.
West Hills Chaminade of the Mission League stayed atop the poll after its 41-21 victory over Venice while St. Paul and Arroyo Grande held at No. 2 and No. 3 after each was victorious Friday. Dominguez dropped from fourth to eighth after being shut out 30-0 by Redlands East Valley.
Serra moved up one spot from No. 5 to No. 4 after a 21-0 victory over Redondo Union. Santa Maria St. Joseph moved up one spot and St. Francis moved two spots, from No. 6 to No. 8, after edging Arcadia 31-28 in its opener. Atascadero dropped to No. 9 with a loss to Clovis and Ventura moved into the No. 10 spot with a 38-0 rout of Oak Park.
Valencia (0-1), which hosts Santa Monica on Sept. 30, is ranked No. 7 in the Northern Division poll after losing to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 17-14 in overtime on Friday. Compton Centennial (2-0), which hosts the Vikings Oct. 7, is ranked No. 7 in the Northwest Division after routing Orange 52-3.
Samohi hosts Palisades in an intersectional matchup Friday night at . The Dolphins (0-1) suffered a 24-21 loss at El Camino Real and are ranked No. 18 by MaxPreps among Los Angeles City Section Division I schools.
(1-1) lost 61-0 to South Hills on Friday in West Covina. The Mariners are not among the ranked teams in the Northeast Division.
