Watch, Vote! New Roads Goes Greener

After taking the state title in the Green Cup Challenge last year, the Santa Monica school is showing impressive results in a national challenge to reduce energy consumption this winter.

At , faculty and students are shutting off space heaters and lamps and putting night lights on timers.

It is one of 116 schools in 22 states competing for bragging rights for reducing electricity consumption this wintee, and it recently reported an "impressive" weekly reduction of 17 percent, according to Veronique Pittman, a conservation blogger at the Huffington Post.

That was during the third week of meter readings for the 2012 national Green Cup Challenge, and the Santa Monica school recorded one of the best results.

"Last year we were the California winners of the inter-school Green Cup Challenge to reduce energy consumption on campus," officials wrote on the school's website. "Now we have the opportunity to win the video competition, but WE NEED YOUR VOTE by February 15th. Show your support for the students who are working so hard on behalf of our school and our planet."
