Little League All-Stars Begin District Playoffs

Several Santa Monica youth baseball teams opened with victories last weekend.

Santa Monica Little League all-star teams began District 25 Tournament play last weekend at Culver City and Ladera. 

Culver City Little League is hosting the 11 & 12-year-old District 25 All-Star Baseball Tournament and Santa Monica East lost to North Venice 4-1 in the first game Friday but rebounded to beat Culver Marina by the same score Monday. Santa Monica East plays Malibu at 5:30 p.m on Wednesday.  

Santa Monica East consists of Chris Cerceda, Aidan Cullen, Grant Clandening, Ryan Dominick, Casey Hsieh, Micah Maccoby, Connor Reese, Alex Rubinek, Brett Schneid, Matty Silk, Ryan Slinger and Thomas Solberg. The manager is Mike Slinger and the coaches are Kurt Clandening, Anthony Hsieh and Matt Maccoby.

Santa Monica West beat Malibu 6-2 Sunday and takes on Ladera at 5 p.m. Tuesday.  

Santa Monica West's roster consists of Desmond Bunting, Chad Costa, Tyler Hicks, Will Johnson, William Line, Justin Oshiro, Ajna Revelle, Harrison Sailing, Henry Schlessinger, Gavin Smith and Dax Speakman. The manager is Des Bunting and the coaches are Ron Schlessenger and Bill Line.

Ladera Little League is hosting the 10-11 division, where Santa Monica West opened the 11-team tournament with a 9-3 victory over Culver Marina last Sunday. Santa Monica West plays Ladera at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Santa Monica West roster consists of Romeo Patterson-Adams, Colin Chun, Max Dorf, Casey Giolito, Thomas Grazer, Holt Jones, Harrison Joslin, Kai Pegula, Ben Terry and Andres Vasquez. The manager is Penn Jones and the coaches are Junior Brigman and Rick Giolito.

Santa Monica East plays at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday against Culver City. 

The Santa Monica East manager is John Solberg and the coaches are Avery Ware and Jeff Finkelstein. The roster consists of Michael Finkelstein, Marcus Gee, Jared Goldman, Owen Hallinan, Andrew Houston, Brandon Iglesias, Josh Klein, Ben Kordan, Jesse Lares, Joey Recinos, John Schwengel, Nicholas Solberg and Nik Trapani

Ladera Little League is hosting the 9-10 division. The 12-team District 25 tournament started Saturday, when Santa Monica East lost to West Los Angeles 9-5 and Santa Monica West beat Malibu 8-1. Santa Monica East rebounded to beat Malibu 10-0 on Monday and plays again July 9. Santa Monica West plays Culver City at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The 9-10 West all-stars are John Corrigan, Ryan Bunting, Chase Rowe, Luca Decristo, James Maniscalco, Grant Smith, Jared Levin, Sam Chesler, Aiden Rosen, James McCormick, Alan Schlessinger and Ethan Enriquez. 

The 9-10 East all-stars, managed by Matt Steinhaus, are Anthony Adams, John Blodgett, Samuel Brand, Wesley Burton, Jack Hyde-White, Joseph Kean, Jack Kelly, Michael Mele, Kentaro Okada, Leo Rubin, Luca Rubin and Jacob Wilkes.  

The Junior Division, hosted by Culver City Little League, started Monday and Santa Monica East lost 19-9 to City of Angels. Santa Monica West plays North Venice at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Santa Monica East all-stars are Alberto Alaniz, David Carvajal, Nicholas Charchut, Steve De La Mora, Jack Ginsberg, Eli Grusin, Jonah Krop, Sean McHugh, Grant McKenna, Jose Nuno, River Moore, Lowell Schipper and Jules Stahler. 

Santa Monica West consists of Eli Bieber, Bradley Finkelstein, Max Mirkin, Duncan Sanders, Dakota Schey, Dillon Sedor, Lucas Montanari, Keian Miller, Ben Patient, Chioke Smith, Chris Tenn and Talon Hadfield. The manager is Jeff Finkelstein and the coaches are Mitch Miller and Carrie Sedor.

The Senior Division will begin Thursday, July 7, and the tournament is being hosted by Beverly Hills Little League. Five teams qualified: Santa Monica, North Venice, Culver Marina, City of Angels and Beverly Hills.

Santa Monica will open against North Venice on Saturday, July 9, at 10 a.m. The championship game is Wednesday, July 13, at 6 p.m., with a second and deciding game Thursday, July 14, at 6 p.m. if an undefeated team loses the July 13 game.
