New Roads Baseball Ranked Third in Division

Samohi volleyball and tennis, St. Monica softball and volleyball teams also make list.

The CIF has released this week's Southern Section Top 10 polls, and the list is full of teams from Santa Monica schools.

In baseball, is ranked third in Division VII behind only Rolling Hills Prep and Nuview Bridge. The Jaguars are off to a 7-1 start and have scored 81 runs so far behind junior pitcher/outfielder , who is batting .500 with 11 runs and 10 RBIs. On the mound he is 2-1 with a 2.62 earned run average and 23 strikeouts. Fellow pitcher has three wins in five appearances, with 27 strikeouts.

New Roads is 2-0 in the Coastal League and resumes league play Friday against Lennox Academy at .

In boys volleyball, is again at the top of the Division IV poll, followed by San Gabriel, Windward, El Rancho, Yucaipa and Brentwood. Ocean League rival Beverly Hills, which Santa Monica swept last week, is No. 10 this week. 

The Vikings (7-5 overall, 3-0 in league) have won three straight matches.

is ranked No. 9 in the Division V poll and was 7-5-2 overall and 4-0 in the Camino Real League heading into Tuesday's match against Mary Star of the Sea.

Led by , who began the week with 189 kills and 1 aces, the Mariners are ahead of Downey Calvary Chapel and behind Chadwick, Vistamar, Viewpoint, Pasadena Poly, Providence, Milken Community, Saddlebeack Valley Christian and Firebaugh.  

In boys tennis, Samohi is ranked No. 3 in Division II, seven spots in front of league rival Beverly Hills. Led by , and , the Vikings are behind only Palm Desert and Arcadia. Right behind Samo at No. 4 is Valencia, followed by Villa Park, El Dorado, Walnut and Diamond Bar.

In girls softball, St. Monica made the "others" list in Division V, just outside the Top 10 along with Marymount, Hemet, San Jacinto and Schurr. The Mariners are 9-5 overall and 4-2 in he Camino Real League heading into Thursday's game with Mary Star of the Sea.

Senior outfielder leads the team with a .450 batting average, an .875 slugging percentage, 15 runs scored and 16 RBIs.
