Samohi Tennis Seeded Third in CIF Playoffs

The CIF Southern Section has released its boys tennis playoff pairings, and is seeded third in the 32-team Division 2 draw.

The Ocean League champion Vikings will host a first-round match Wednesday at  3 p.m. against whichever team wins Tuesday's wildcard match between Ayala and Burbank. If the Vikings can prevail Wednesday, they would then face the West Ranch-La Quinta winner in the second round Friday. 

Desert Valley League champion Palm Desert is the No. 1 seed in Division 2, followed by Pacific League champion Arcadia, Santa Monica and No. 4 Valencia. 

Ocean League rivals Beverly Hills and Culver City also made the Division 2 playoffs. Second-place Beverly Hills hosts Tesoro, the second-place team from the Sea View League, in the first round at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. 

If Beverly Hills prevails it will meet either a wild-card winner or Foothill League champion Valencia in the second round Friday. 

Third-place Culver City got an at-large bid and will travel north to Oxnard to take on Pacifica in a wild-card match Tuesday. The winner advances to the main draw and travels to Walnut for a first-round match Wednesday.

Samohi is on the opposite side of the draw from both Beverly Hills and Culver City, meaning it would not face either league foe until the final round.

Quarterfinals in all divisions are May 17; semifinals are May 24 and championships are Wednesday, June 1, at The Claremont Club.
