SM High Schools' Sports Teams Make CIF Playoffs

Several squads from five schools have qualified for the postseason.

Santa Monica high schools will be well-represented in this winter's CIF Southern Section playoffs.

The boys and girls basketball and soccer teams all qualified for postseason play. After tying for second place in the Ocean League, the boys basketball team made the Division 1AA playoffs and will travel to No. 11 Upland in the first round Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Vikings' girls squad is seeded seventh in Division 1AA and will host Rancho Verde in the first round Thursday at 7 p.m.

The undefeated Samohi boys soccer squad is the No. 1 seed in Division 4, and will host the winner of Wednesday's wild card game between Pioneer and El Segundo on Friday at 3 p.m. Meanwhile, having won its eighth straight league title last week, the girls soccer squad will host Malibu in the first round of the Division 4 playoffs Thursday at 3 p.m.

' boys basketball team is the No. 8 seed in Division 4A and will travel to Lancaster Desert Christian in the first round on Wednesday. In girls soccer, the Roadrunners received a wild card and will play at Montclair on Tuesday at 3 p.m., with the winner advancing to Thursday's Division 4 first-round game at top-seeded Westlake Village Oaks Christian. The boys soccer team travels to Grace Brethren for a Division 6 first-round game Friday at 3  p.m.

The girls basketball team hosts 14th-seeded Caonoga Park AGBU in the first round of the Division 5A playoffs Thursday, and the boys' soccer squad made the Division 7 playoffs. The Jaguars travel to La Sierra Academy in the first round Friday at 3 p.m.

The boys basketball team is seeded 12th in Division 5AA and hosts Sage Hill in the first round Wednesday at 7 p.m. The girls squad is the No. 9 seed in Division 5AA, and the Mariners will host Workman Thursday at 7 p.m. in the first round.

Finally, in Division 6AA, the boys basketball team is seeded No. 5 and travels to San Fernando Valley Academy in the first round Wednesday at 7 p.m.
