SMC Women's Tennis Ranked No. 1 in Region
The Corsairs are first in Southern California in the final NJCAA regular season poll.
The National Junior College Athletic Association recently released its final regular season women's tennis poll and, not surprisingly, is ranked No. 1 in Southern California.
The rankings, administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, are based on head-to-head competition, strength of schedule and overall record. The Corsairs (15-1) are the top-ranked team, in front of Grossmont, Palomar, Riverside, Saddleback, Santa Barbara, Irvine Valley, San Diego Mesa, Ventura and Bakersfield.
, the Corsairs' top player, is ranked No. 2 in singles behind Jasmin Ortiz of Grossmont. SMC's and are No. 9 and No. 12, respectively, in singles. The pair is also the No. 2-ranked doubles team, behind Grossmont's Ortiz and Sharon Reibstein.

SMC routed Foothill Conference Champion Rio Hondo, 5-1, on Tuesday in the first round of the . The No. 1-seeded Corsairs will host No. 6 Riverside in the second round on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at . Riverside upset fourth-seeded Mt. San Antonio College, 5-1, in the first round.
Should the Corsairs prevail on Tuesday, they would host either third-seeded Grossmont or No. 7 Palomar in the dual regional finals May 4 at . Palomar upset No. 2-seeded Saddleback, 5-4, in the first round and Grossmont netted a 5-3 win over No. 5 Santa Barbara City.
