SMC's Mozolyuk Wins Singles Title in Ojai

The Corsairs' top player triumphed in the women's Community College division.

The 111th Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament took place over the weekend in Ventura County and , the top player at , captured the women's Community College singles title and the Corsairs captured the team title for the first time in school history.

Mozolyuk, the No. 1 seed in the 128-player singles field, defeated Nakieta Hein of Saddleback, 6-3, 6-1, in the finals Sunday at Libbey Park. Afterwards, Mozolyuk was presented the  by Tournament Director Vivian Perrett.

In doubles, the Corsairs tandem of  and  was seeded No. 1 and reached the semifinals of the women's Community College division, falling to eventual champions Alex McDonald and Nicole Simone of Reedley, 7-5, 6-3.

At the conclusion of the tournament the Corsairs were presented the awarded to the school that accumulates the most combined wins in singles and doubles.

"This is verification that SMC is the team to beat," Corsairs Coach said of his team's performance in Ojai. "It kind of puts a target on our backs, but I have no doubt we'll keep moving forward."

SMC is the No. 1 seed in the and will host No. 3 Grossmont in the finals Wednesday at . The winner advances to the state dual team championship May 12 in Fresno.
