Whiz Kids: Yachting Champs

The Obel sisters are participating in J.O.B.S.O.N. Day on Saturday.

On Saturday, the first-ever J.O.B.S.O.N. Day will take place at the Del Rey Yacht Club in Marina del Rey. The acronym stands for "Juniors' Outreach for Boating and Sailing Opportunities Now" and is also the last name of Gary Jobson, who was the winning Tactitioner of the America's Cup. He'll be participating in the event.

Also on hand will be the Obel sisters—Nikki, 16, and Cassie, 14—who were the Association of Santa Monica Bay Yacht Club's 2010 Junior Yachtsman of the Year and the 2010 U.S. Sabot Nationals Overall champion, respectively.

The three sailing icons will also be at a related media gathering held Friday morning at the yacht club, in anticipation of Saturday's main event. They'll be doing interviews and participating in demonstrations.

Preteens and teens alike are invited to J.O.B.S.O.N. Day, but they should be accompanied by an adult. If they go, they can meet Jobson, see videos and check out sailing demonstrations.

The event, which starts at 2 p.m., is free. A fundraising dinner and silent auction benefiting the Junior Sailing program for the Del Rey Youth Foundation will be held later in the day. Tickets for the dinner are $15 for kids, $50 for adults.
