Attention Santa Monica: Your Jazz on the Lawn Lineup 2014

Santa Monica Cultural Affairs presents the 9th annual Jazz on the Lawn summer concert series.

Bring a picnic, blanket, beach chairs, family and friends and enjoy a sampling of free music each Sunday in August at Stewart Street Park, 1836 Stewart St.

The fun, family-friendly concerts draw people of all ages who come to dance, relax and enjoy lively music in the park. This year’s exciting artist line-up includes:

  • Critical Brass on Aug. 3, a New Orleans second line mashup band that blends Dixieland jazz, gospel funk, Afro-Latin grooves and neo-soul hip-hop freestyles
  • Adaawe on Aug. 10, a group of seven scintillating women performing an international fusion of African music, R&B/pop vocals, jazz-funk, Latin 
  • and reggae steeped in Gospel harmonies
  • The Tom Nolan Band on Aug. 17, together for over 20 years, this group plays an eclectic mix of soul, blues and jazz
  • Cats with Class on Aug. 24 a band of talented musicians with divergent cultural roots that fuse together jazz, rock and swing
  • Orquesta Charangoa, on Aug. 31, raditional Cuban charanga dance rhythms, ssuch as chachacha, son, mambo, merengue and Danzon

In addition to dessert trucks, for the first time Jazz on the Lawn will also have rotating food trucks at each concert to serve hungry picnickers. Food trucks will include:

  • Dogtown Dogs, offering a scrumptious twist on classic hot dogs on Aug. 3 and 24
  • The Lobos Truck, selling organic, free range and local comfort food with a conscience on Aug. 10 and 31
  • Yalla Truck, specializing in 100% vegetarian falafel pitas on Aug. 17

Desserts are available from: 

  • Sweet Lucie’s Organic Ice Cream, 100 percent organic ice cream and sorbets on Aug. 3 and 24
  • A ROCKin ICE Hawaiian Shave Ice, flavorful Hawaiian shaved ice on Aug. 10 and 31
  • Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream, handmade, natural ice cream on Aug. 17

Stewart Street Park amenities include a children’s playground, restrooms and handicap parking.  Free parking is available after 3:30 p.m. along with a free bike valet at 4 p.m.
